Enter Shikari : Itekako smo živi i zdravi, hvala.

Kako to uspevate ?

HM : 17. aprila ste objavili novi album “Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible”.

Šta god vas ispuni ljubavlju, nadom i pozitivnošću. Kod svakoga je nešto drugačije.

English version of interview

HM : Firstly,we hope you’re alive and well. Do you have an opinion on the current situation, how do you fight against it and in what way does the situation affect you?

Enter Shikari : We are very much alive and well, thank you. I hope the same for you and yours. We are obviously in a very difficult situation world wide. A situation that we should be respecting the severity of and doing what we can to save as many valuble human lives as possible by taking the professionals’ advice and practising social distancing and being as careful about personal hygiene as we can. We have had to cancel our album promotional tour and stay at home because of it but luckily we live in an age where we are able to use different tools to reach our fans and spread our new music from there.

HM : Nowadays bands often change members on a yearly basis, but the four of you have been together from the start. How do you manage to do that?

Enter Shikari : I think growing up together has played a big part in it. The fact that we have know each other for so long and didn’t come into our roles with expectations and egos. It helps too that we aren’t aresholes. We have all been brought up with a general respect for people and the ideology that we should treat people the way we wish to be treated. Sure, we’ve had our disagreements in the past but we always get through them because we are more like brothers than just friends.

HM : You publish a new album every 2-3 years, compared to Tool’s album that we’ve waited for 13 years. Also, every album or a single from the same receives an award and according to our sources, 4 of your albums were on Britain’s list of Top 10. Where does the inspiration come from?

Enter Shikari : I think it is easy for us to keep releasing music because it is what we do, what we love to do. We are all so close that creating music together comes naturally. There is the side that, monetarily, we need to keep releasing music to stay afloat as a business but even if we did not need to, we still would because it’s in our hearts.

HM : On April 17th, you published “Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible”. Your music generally consists of various subgenres, so it’s hard to determine whether you have a concrete music style. As you said, this album is a mixture of all the previous outings and you’ve really turned to a new direction. What’s your take on this?

Enter Shikari : We have always had a very wide range of musical interests. Enter Shikari is like a sponge soaking up everything around it. It would be impossible for these not to come out in our creativity. We have put ourselves into a good position where people now expect it from us so we can – within reason – release whatever musical style we like and it will be accepted. Our eclectic musical style is unifying, not dividing.

HM : As Serbs, we’d like to ask you something about our country. You performed on Arsenal Fest in Kragujevac 2 years ago, do you remember that concert? We remember the crowd screaming and cheering as if it were a Beatles concert.

Enter Shikari : I do remember the show. The crowd were fantastic. Normally festival stages will be in a field but being surrounded by the buildings seemed to make the crowd louder and intensify the energy. After our performance Chris and I had a few drinks and partied at the dance stage. In the morning I bought a pair of sunglasses to sheild my hungover eyes.

HM : We also are genuinely interested if you know any artists from the Balkans?

Enter Shikari : I’m afraid I do not. Perhaps you could recommend some?

HM : You included an orchestra in certain sections in your new album, which wasn’t a common occurrence before, how did that come to life? And do you plan to perform the songs like that live?

Enter Shikari : We have always enjoyed experimenting with our instrumentation. We are not afraid to layer up more textures in our music, from a church organ on our Common Dreads album to a Dhol drum in The Mindsweep. If we have it available to us, we will use it! Our new record label So Recordings has worked with George Fenton and the Prague Philamonic a lot in the past so it was the perfect opportunity for us. It would be an incredible experience to play with a full orchestra on stage some time but I can imagine the logistics of taking them on tour would be difficult!

HM : “A true spectacle” is term that can be used to describe your concerts and whoever attends them has the opportunity to hear a combination of lots of genres. How would you describe your crowd, what sort of people can often be seen attending your concerts? And most importantly, do you miss touring and playing in general?

Enter Shikari : We absolutely miss touring, it is such a big part of our profession. Our crowds, I believe, are just as eclectic as our music is. They seem to range massively in age and background but all of them have passion and energy at the show. I believe our audience is the most welcoming and accepting audience there could be. We take so much pleasure in seeing new friendships made at our shows. If someone is nervous about going to a show by themselves, a quick post online and they will instantly have people to meet and go with. I’m very proud of our fans.

HM : We ask everyone this question, and we must ask you as well. If you could listen to any band in any place and time, who would you listen to, where and when?

Enter Shikari : Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Moscow, August 20th 1880.

HM : Lastly, we want to thank you for this interview and we wish you the best, and to take care during this situation.Final question; we recommend our readers to listen to your new album. But what would you recommend they listen while locked up at home during this pandemic?

Enter Shikari : Other than our album? Whatever fills you with love, hope and positivity. It will be different for everyone. Thank you so much for having me. Stay well xx
